Mt. Vernon First United Methodist Church Becomes First Sponsor of Bright Start Classroom
April 29, 2026

The congregation of Mt. Vernon First United Methodist Church, a longstanding pillar in the spiritual and civic life of the community, has become the first-ever sponsor of a Bright Start Early Learning Center Classroom. This milestone marks a new chapter in community collaboration, connecting local faith communities directly with early childhood education.

Mt. Vernon First UMC has a rich history of service, outreach, and compassion. Through efforts such as its Angels on Assignment ministry, the church has consistently responded to community needs — supporting families during times of hardship, creating opportunities for fellowship, and fostering environments where individuals of all ages can grow in faith. This newest initiative continues that legacy in a meaningful and forward-thinking way.

Through its sponsorship, Mt. Vernon First UMC is making a meaningful investment in the future of children and families. This support will provide essential classroom supplies, age-appropriate learning materials, and a faith-based curriculum that nurtures both academic growth and character development. The benefits extend to educators as well, with funding helping to enhance classroom environments, support professional development, and introduce innovative teaching tools — helping to create a more engaging, supportive learning experience for every child.

“This partnership is a natural extension of our mission to serve and invest in future generations,” said Rev. Victor Long. “We believe in supporting the whole child — academically, socially, and spiritually — and this opportunity allows us to live out our faith in a very tangible way. We are honored to partner with Bright Start and invest in the children and families of our community.”

Leaders at Bright Start expressed their gratitude for the partnership, noting that this sponsorship sets an inspiring example for other organizations and congregations.

“We are incredibly grateful for the vision and commitment shown by Mt. Vernon First UMC,” said Sunny Campbell, Bright Start Early Learning Center Director. “Their leadership demonstrates what is possible when communities come together to support early childhood education.”

Bright Start, a program of Spero Family Services, invites other churches and community organizations to explore opportunities to sponsor classrooms and make a direct impact on local children and families.
