Learn About the Giving CATALOG Projects

We've curated a selection of projects that aim to enhance the healing environment at Spero Family Services, and we invite you to join us in making a positive difference. You can explore all the giving opportunities below.

Bright Start Classrooms

The first 3 years of life are enormously influential on fine motor skills and critical thinking development of young children, and a Bright Start classroom sponsorship provides everything needed for children to thrive during their most formative years.

Your support supplies age-appropriate learning materials, faith-based curriculum, individualized learning support, and enrichment activities that expand each child's understanding of the world. Sponsorship also invests in teacher professional development and classroom improvements to ensure quality instruction.

Together, these resources create safe, engaging learning environments where young children build the foundation for lifelong success.

Spero Client Vans

We are actively seeking individuals and businesses willing to contribute toward the purchase of new client vans for Spero. Reliable transportation is critical for the children in our care, as it enables them to maintain connections with siblings and family members through visits, which are essential for their emotional health. Additionally, having dependable vans allows us to take the children on various recreational activities, enriching their experiences and helping them build lasting memories.

By donating to this cause, you can ensure that our children have safe and dependable transportation to support their ongoing development and family connections.

WESLEY TRAINING CENTER: PAVILION RENOVATIONS

The Wesley Campus in Mount Vernon is more than a training center — it's a gathering place for the families, youth, and community members Spero serves every day. The outdoor space surrounding Wesley have the potential to be a true extension of that mission: a place for children to play, staff to rest and reflect, and neighbors to gather.

Right now, those spaces need some work. The outdoor pavilion at Wesley is already a well-loved venue — it's where Spero hosts our annual Family Fun Fest and where groups gather throughout the year. But it's been a while since the space received real attention, and there's a clear opportunity to transform it into something truly special. With your support, we can rewire the pavilion's electrical system, renovate the built-in grill, add more seating, and purchase new picnic tables so more people can gather comfortably.

WESLEY TRAINING CENTER: Play Space

Children who visit and learn at Wesley deserve a dedicated space to play - but right now, everything for a fun day has to be brought out and brought back in when we host an event. That's why we're building a new outdoor play structure on the Wesley Campus grounds — a place where young people can move, explore, and simply be kids.

The play structure is estimated to cost $18,000 for materials & delivery, with additional mulch, landscaping, and surrounding elements needed to complete the space. We're actively partnering with local labor unions, YouthBuild, and board members to secure installation support — meaning more of every gift can go directly toward the structure itself.

Your gift helps build:

  • A safe, age-appropriate play structure for children on campus
  • Mulch and landscaping to create a finished, welcoming environment
  • A maintenance fund to ensure the space stays safe and usable for years to come

  • Spiritual Life Integration

Faith is woven into everything at Spero — not as a program, but as a practice. Every staff meeting begins with prayer. Spero's Spiritual Life Coordinator attends gatherings across all programs, from Bright Start to YouthBuild to the Counseling and Wellness Centers, offering weekly devotionals, leading prayer walks with youth, and providing faith-based support to clients navigating therapy. Your gift helps sustain this quiet, consistent presence across the organization.

  • Professional Development

Spero's team includes licensed clinicians, early childhood educators, youth development specialists, and residential care staff. Keeping those professionals trained, credentialed, and connected to the latest best practices is essential to the quality of care families receive. General Fund dollars have helped send staff to conferences through the Methodist Ministries Network, national residential care programs, Parents as Teachers, and play and child therapy training — opportunities that wouldn't otherwise exist.

  • Access to Care at Bright Start and the Counseling and Wellness Centers

Not every family who needs Spero's services can afford them. Unrestricted funding helps ensure that cost is never the reason a child misses out on early learning or a family goes without mental health support. Your gift helps close that gap.

  • Dual Accreditation

Spero holds two organizational accreditations — COA (Council on Accreditation), which evaluates all programs and services, and EAGLE, the only faith-based accreditation in the country and a mark of Spero's commitment to integrating spiritual life into every aspect of its work. Maintaining both requires hosting review teams every four years, covering travel and site visit expenses. General Fund gifts help Spero maintain these standards without diverting dollars from direct services.

  • Aging Facilities

Spero's campuses have served Southern Illinois families for over 112 years. Keeping those spaces safe, functional, and welcoming requires ongoing maintenance and repairs that fall outside the scope of program-specific grants. General Fund gifts help fill those gaps.

General Fund

Some needs can be planned for. Others show up without warning — a family in crisis, a staff member ready to grow, a building that can't wait. Spero's General Fund exists to meet those moments head-on.

An unrestricted gift to the General Fund gives Spero's leadership the flexibility to direct resources where they're needed most, when they're needed most. Click through the gallery to take a look at the kinds of needs your gift addresses.

“Our son comes home excited to talk about his day, and he loves to go and see his teachers, which gives us peace of mind.

He loves them because they love him so well during the day.”
